...and we stood up for them. But let's get back to cars. Because we love to have a lot of choices, we need French cars in America again. I mean we were short of cars with with that distinct, Latin air(except for supercars, obviously). Now, thanks to Fiat merging with Chrysler, the Italians are coming back. We need to get the French back, too.
Sure, Italian supercars are great, but the concepts delivered by French mainstream brands, are just as impressive.
And just like the Ford GT or Acura NSX, they don't need to have a dozen generations before them to be cool, they are cool only because of the great combination of design and technology, they bring to the table.
So PSA, Renault, move your asses to America and sell us your cars. And build those supercars.

All the French cars I care about come from smaller manufacturers, either building from scratch or extensively modifying major production models. (Except the DS. I love the DS.)
So, I am not holding out as much hope for the French auto industry, sadly.

But we could save their ass. Because we're huge and we still buy a lot of cars, because gas is cheap and we think public transport is communist, obviously.

Yea, but right now, the barrier to entry for them in the US market is big. Crash standards, emission standards, just getting a distribution network up and running in the US, it's not a simple prospect. Plus, lots of Boomers (who are still a large part of the car-buying public) remember the "bad old days" of Dauphines, Le Cars, and the Alliance. (Scare quotes because they weren't really that bad, but legends spread.)

The Renault at the top looks pretty awesome! Even thou they probably wont make it, it would be a cool car to see in real life.

Nissan has such a huge dealer network, and by using that, Renault could start selling cars here by tomorrow morning, if they wanted. So that isn't really a problem.
And millennials could buy a French car to distance themselves from their parents, who mostly drive American or Japanese cars. They don't buy German cars because those are expensive, except for VW who mostly sells boring cars.
So yeah, fix the safety and emissions and Renault is free to go.
For PSA, things are problematic. Unless their partnership with GM can be extended to include distribution.
